A South Korean rapper, vocalist, and solo artist. Born Kim Jennie on January 16, 1996, she is best known as a member of BLACKPINK. She founded her own label Odd Atelier (OA) in December 2023 and signed with Columbia Records in 2024. Her fandom is called BLINK (shared with BLACKPINK).
Jennie was the first BLACKPINK member to debut as a solo artist, releasing “Solo” in November 2018.
Building toward Ruby
Jennie spent years as BLACKPINK’s main rapper and lead vocalist before turning her focus fully to solo work. Her 2018 debut single “Solo” topped the Circle Digital Chart and the Billboard World Digital Songs chart — the first time a lead female K-pop soloist topped the latter. But a proper album took time.
That process began in earnest in early 2024 in Los Angeles. She founded Odd Atelier, signed with Columbia Records, and released the lead single “Mantra” in October 2024 — a track that peaked at number three on the Billboard Global 200 and broke the record for the highest-charting song by a Korean female soloist on the UK Singles Chart.
Ruby
Jennie’s debut studio album Ruby arrived on March 7, 2025, via Odd Atelier and Columbia Records. Fifteen tracks, featuring Childish Gambino, Dua Lipa, Doechii, Kali Uchis, Dominic Fike, and FKJ. It sold over one million copies worldwide, debuted in the top ten in more than 19 countries, and became the highest-charting album by a K-pop female soloist on the UK Albums Chart. All five singles entered the US Billboard Hot 100.
BLACKPINK and what came after
Jennie rejoined BLACKPINK for the Deadline World Tour — the group’s first all-stadium world tour — which ran from July 2025 to January 2026. The group released their EP Deadline in February 2026, their first full group project since Born Pink (2022). She is confirmed to headline Lollapalooza Chicago in summer 2026, one of the first female K-pop soloists to receive top billing at a major US festival.
Where to start listening
“Solo” (2018) — The debut single. The clearest early statement of her solo identity.
“Mantra” (2024) — The Ruby lead single. Assertive, internationally focused, and her biggest solo moment to date.
“Like Jennie” (2025) — From Ruby. A circle chart number one and one of the album’s standout tracks.
