A seven-member South Korean multinational boy group, debuted on January 16, 2014, under JYP Entertainment with their first EP Got It? Members are Jay B, Mark, Jackson, Jinyoung, Youngjae, BamBam, and Yugyeom. Their fandom name is Ahgase — Korean for “baby bird,” also abbreviated as iGOT7.

The group that stayed together

GOT7’s seven-year exclusive contract with JYP Entertainment expired in January 2021. All seven members chose not to renew — and then chose to remain GOT7 anyway.

That decision was notable. In K-pop, when a group’s label contract ends, it usually marks the beginning of disbandment, even if no one says so officially. GOT7 went a different direction: each member signed individually with a different agency, pursued solo careers, and agreed to continue promoting as a group on top of everything else. The trademark rights to the GOT7 name were retained by the members, not the label.

It worked. In May 2022, they released their self-titled EP under Warner Music Korea — their first as independent artists — which topped iTunes in 95 regions. In January 2025, they released Winter Heptagon to celebrate their 11th anniversary as a full group, their first release in nearly three years.

The JYP years

GOT7 debuted in January 2014 with a martial arts-influenced style that set them apart visually, and quickly established themselves as one of JYP’s flagship acts. Over seven years, they released four studio albums, eleven mini-albums, and built a substantial international fanbase — particularly in Southeast Asia and the United States.

Their discography spans a wide range: “Just Right” (2015) and “If You Do” (2015) established their pop identity; “Hard Carry” (2016) pushed harder; “You Calling My Name” (2019) showed a more mature, R&B direction. They won the Golden Disc Album of the Year award five consecutive years beginning in 2017.

Where they stand now

All seven members continue to maintain solo careers across different agencies while reuniting for GOT7 releases and events. Jay B and Jinyoung completed military service in 2024, and the Winter Heptagon comeback was the group’s first full reunion since.

Where to start listening

“Just Right” (2015) — Light, cheerful, and still one of the most likable songs in their catalog.

“If You Do” (2015) — A sharper, more intense direction. One of their best performances as a group.

“You Calling My Name” (2019) — Their most mature era, and the clearest signal of where they were headed artistically before leaving JYP.
