A South Korean sibling duo consisting of brother Lee Chan-hyuk and sister Lee Su-hyun, formerly known as Akdong Musician. Originally signed to YG Entertainment, they are now independent under their own label, founded in January 2026. The duo is widely recognized as one of K-pop’s most distinctive acts — not for choreography or idol aesthetics, but for genuine musicianship and songwriting, with Chan-hyuk writing and producing virtually all of their music.

The siblings spent five years in Mongolia as children while their parents served as Christian missionaries, and it was during this time that their musical bond and self-taught artistry took root. They rose to fame by winning SBS’s K-Pop Star 2 in 2013, impressing all three judges with their original compositions before signing with YG Entertainment. Their 2014 debut album PLAY dominated Korean music charts with an “all-kill,” and went on to sell over 6.1 million digital copies.

Since then, AKMU have consistently topped charts with emotionally resonant, genre-defying music — from the introspective Puberty series (2016–2017) to the widely beloved “How Can I Love the Heartbreak, You’re the One I Love” (2019) and “Love Lee” (2023). In 2026, they marked a new chapter with the release of their fourth studio album Flowering, now operating fully independently.
