BABYMONSTER joins the ‘girl group wars’ on the 4th with their 3rd mini album ‘CHOOM’ (춤).

‘CHOOM’ is the group’s first release in approximately seven months, following their 2nd mini album ‘WE GO UP’ last October.

The album includes a total of 4 tracks: the title track ‘CHOOM,’ along with ‘MOON,’ ‘I LIKE IT,’ and ‘LOCKED IN.’ Through this album filled with hip-hop, dance, and R&B tracks, BABYMONSTER aims to showcase a more defined musical identity than ever before.

The members shared their comeback thoughts through their agency YG Entertainment, saying, “We’re happy to be able to show the results of our hard work to our fans. It will be an album that draws admiration,” adding, “We’ll show you new charms and how much we’ve grown.”

The title track ‘CHOOM’ is a song that embodies the ambition of “turning the whole world into one giant dance floor through BABYMONSTER’s music and performances.” YG described it as “a song characterized by dynamic beats that live up to its title.”

Member Chiquita explained, “It’s a track with an energetic yet highly addictive sound. While we’ve previously shown hip-hop-based music with intense charisma, this time we’ve prepared a song where everyone can literally dance together and have fun. The chorus, which kicks in with a dramatic beat switch, is the killing part.”

Notably, YG’s overall producer Yang Hyun-suk is said to have personally participated in creating the choreography for the new song. Through a ‘YG ANNOUNCEMENT’ video recently posted on YG’s official blog, Yang stated, “Since the song is called ‘CHOOM’ (Dance), I felt the dancing really had to be spectacular,” and revealed, “I personally took part in choreographing the chorus section.”

He also shared behind-the-scenes details, saying, “I had commissioned 10 choreographers but wasn’t satisfied with any of them, which is what led me to step in myself,” and that “the process until completion was very long and difficult.”

The members are highly satisfied with the choreography. Ruka emphasized, “It’s a song that comes even more alive when you watch it with the performance,” and that “both the song and the choreography feel hip yet have more depth than before.” Chiquita added, “The choreography overall is more powerful and detailed. The formations are freer than before, and there are various changing configurations, so it’ll be more fun to watch.”

BABYMONSTER made their official debut in April 2024. Highly anticipated as YG’s first new girl group launch in seven years since BLACKPINK’s debut, they achieved their first ‘million-seller’ status when their 1st full album ‘DRIP,’ released in November 2024, surpassed cumulative sales of one million copies last year.

Earlier this year, ‘Really Like You,’ a track from ‘DRIP,’ gained popularity across social media and short-form platforms and successfully climbed back up the charts, becoming a hot topic. Prior to that, BABYMONSTER had also drawn attention for their outstanding live performance at CJ ENM’s music awards show, the MAMA AWARDS.

All eyes are on whether BABYMONSTER, who have steadily built up fandom power and public appeal to grow their presence, will hit a career high with this comeback. There is also keen interest in how competitive they will prove to be in the ‘girl group wars,’ where LE SSERAFIM, ILLIT, aespa, ITZY, NMIXX, I.O.I and others are all entering the fray.

BABYMONSTER also has their 2nd world tour ahead, spanning 5 continents including Asia, Oceania, Europe, North America, and South America. They will open the tour in Seoul at Jamsil Indoor Stadium from June 26 to 28. Tickets for the Seoul shows sold out immediately after going on sale. Having drawn approximately 300,000 audience members on their first world tour, BABYMONSTER plans to stage this tour on an even larger scale.

Member Rora shared, “During our first world tour, I was very focused on showing what we had prepared, but now I’ve been able to focus on how to make the audience enjoy themselves even more on stage. Since the fans are looking forward to it so much, I want to give them unforgettable memories.”
